In the Name of “Protecting the Public”
In the Name of “Protecting the Public”
With the terrorism threat, unfortunately, the police are going to be given the benefit of doubt in these matters. Citizens’ rights will take a back seat to the fear of terror, and we will be moving more and more to a police state as they encroach on civil rights in the name of “protecting the public“.
Look at what NSA is up to and the efforts to prevent smart phones from being encrypted, so the messages are available to law enforcement.
Look at the newest moves by this administration to gain control over the Internet. We are just beginning to see the ever increasing encroachment on liberty and freedom as the “war on terror“ gives license to the infringement of civil rights. Hence, the balance between freedom and protection are at a tipping point for us as a nation.
How much are we willing to give up to be “protected“?
